Continental Airlines boosting service to Hawaii

Continental Airlines is expanding flights between Honolulu and California, Hawaii's top visitor market.
"We've been meeting with Continental Airlines as well as other carriers in order to regain seat inventory lost with the closures of Aloha Airlines and ATA," said Mike McCartney, president and chief executive officer of the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
The carrier will add four weekly flights from Honolulu to Orange County in March. Continental will use a Boeing 737-700 on the new route with 124 seats, and plans to increase the service to daily during the summer.
"We are especially pleased that Continental will add a direct Honolulu-Orange County flight, a popular route for travelers to Hawaii," McCartney said.
Continental also announced today that it would use a 160-seat Boeing 737-800 to offer daily service from Maui to Los Angeles and a 173-seat Boeing 737-900 to carry customers on a second-daily flight between Honolulu and Los Angeles. Both new flights will begin in March.
"Hawaii continues to be a popular travel destination for our customers," Jeff Moken, Continental's Honolulu general manager, said in a news release today. "We continue to see good demand for travel between Hawaii and the U.S. mainland and are pleased to offer expanded travel options to the islands."
On Dec. 18, Continental will also operate twice-weekly service between Honolulu and Nadi, Fiji.

To start with, Continental Airlines’ new flights between John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, and Honolulu International Airport in Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, will operate 4 times a week. The airline said it plans to raise the frequency of the Orange County-Honolulu service to daily flights in the summer.
In addition, the airline will launch new daily flights between Los Angeles International Airport and Kahului Airport in Maui, Hawaii, as well as start a second daily flight between Los Angeles and Honolulu from March 7, 2010.
Continental Airlines’ new, 4-times-a-week flight will depart from John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, at 5.20 p.m. (West Coast time) and arrive at Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii at 8.05 p.m. (Hawaii time). In the return direction, the flight leaves Honolulu at 11.10 p.m. and reaches Orange County at 7.45 a.m., except on Saturdays. (On Saturdays, the flight will take off from Honolulu 30 minutes later.)
The airline will use a Boeing 737-700 aircraft, having 124 seats, on the Orange County-Honolulu route.
On the Los Angeles-Kahului route, the flight will leave Los Angeles International Airport at 5.05 p.m. (West Coast time) and land in Kahului Airport in Maui, Hawaii, at 7.45 p.m. (Hawaii time). On the return leg, the flight will take off from Maui at 9.15 p.m. and reach Los Angeles at 5.45 a.m.
A 160-seats Boeing 737-800 plane will fly on the Los Angeles-Kahului route.
Continental Airlines’ second daily flight between Los Angeles and Honolulu will take off from Los Angeles International Airport at 1.55 p.m. (West Coast time) and land in Honolulu International Airport at 4.40 p.m. (Hawaii time). In the reverse direction, the flight departs from Honolulu at 1.50 p.m. and reaches Los Angeles at 10.25 p.m.
A Boeing 737-900 aircraft with 173 seats will be sued for the second Los Angeles-Honolulu service.
Continental Airlines said in a statement that it is the 8 biggest airline at the Honolulu International Airport.
Continental Airlines said it will also introduce – from December 18, 2009 – twice-a-week service between Honolulu in Hawaii and Nadi in Fiji, the island nation in the Pacific.
In another development, Continental Airlines recently moved its flights leaving Tokyo to the south wing of Terminal 1 at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport.
Continental Airlines at present flies to Hawaii with daily services from New York, Houston and Guam.
In the statement, Jim Compton, executive vice-president (marketing) of Continental Airlines, said the new services will offer more convenience to passengers as well as complement routes operated by future partners of the Star Alliance.
